Tommy David Albertson gained his wings and golden golf clubs on December 31, 2023 at 8:08am.
Tommy was born on July 9, 1929, to Jefferson and Annie Albertson at home in the oil fields of Mexia, Texas. Tommy was the second of five children. His Dad (Jefferson) worked for Conoco for 27 years. They moved to Eunice, NM for 5 years then to Monument, NM where he finished High School in 1947. He was in the top 10 of his class but it turns out there were nine in his senior class.
Tommy’s father passed away his senior year of high school which led Tommy to a early career with Conoco. His career took him throughout Texas and New Mexico which included Monument, Jal, Maljamar, Coleman, Forsan, Ozona, Big Lake, Nocona and Midland. Tommy retired in 1990 after 43 years of service to Conoco finally settling down in Big Lake then San Angelo.
On July 3, 1949, he married Gearldine Ester Hirrill and had three children. Gearldine passed away in January 1973. On August 14, 1973, he married Carolyn Smith and blended their two families. In 1979 Brian David Albertson was born and then adopted into the family, making a total of six children.
Tommy led a very active life which included his love of sports. He started playing golf at 42 where he made many great golfing buddies. On September 28, 1973 while playing a round of golf in Big Lake, Tommy hit a hole-in-one on the 8th Hole. The many stories from these adventures were entertaining and often very colorful. He also loved playing racquet ball, couples’ volleyball and fast pitch softball. Tommy also held onto a plethora of jokes that could always get people to laugh.
Proceeding him in death were his parents Jefferson and Annie, Sisters, Ruby Gillmore, Cleo Scearce, Geneva Smith, First wife Gearldine and Son Duke Albertson. Tommy is survived by wife Carolyn Albertson, daughters Wanda Greenshield, Teresa Siboloro and husband Eddy, Cindy Weatherby, and sons, Randy Smith and wife Krista and Brian and wife Leah. Along with Numerous grandkids and great grands. The family wished to thank High Plains Hospice care with special care given in his last days. Those folks include Mary Kay, Britni, Paige, Stephanie, and Visiting Angels. A very special thanks to Carmen from Comfort Care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a favorite charity.
The Family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Harper Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will be held at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo on Thursday, January 4th at 10:00am. The Graveside Service will be held at Glenn Rest Cemetery in Big Lake on Thursday, January 4th at 2:00pm.
