The Reagan County Sheriff’s Department is actively searching for a suspect involved in a fatal altercation that occurred Tuesday evening at a drilling rig site in North Reagan County. Sheriff Jeff Garner confirmed that Tony Antwan Bingham, a 39 -year-old Mississippi native, is wanted for murder after allegedly stabbing a co-worker during a dispute.
The incident took place at a remote drilling location off FM 2600 near the Sterling County line. Bingham and two other men, all co-workers, were living in a travel trailer at the site. Both Bingham and the 27-year-old victim are from Mississippi.
According to Sheriff Garner, the altercation began as a verbal argument while the men were cooking steaks during their time off. The situation escalated into a physical fight, during which Bingham allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times with a steak knife. After realizing the severity of the situation, Bingham reportedly informed the third roommate of the stabbing before fleeing the scene on foot.
The 911 call was received at 5:49 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Deputies arrived to find the victim deceased at the scene. The murder weapon, a steak knife, has been recovered by authorities.
Sheriff Garner described Bingham as a 6-foot-4, 225-pound Black male with black hair and brown eyes. It is unknown if Bingham sustained any injuries during the altercation. Authorities believe he may be unfamiliar with the area, as he is not from Texas.
Bingham remains at large, and a warrant for his arrest on murder charges has been issued.
“We are actively pursuing all leads and ask the public to remain vigilant,” Sheriff Garner stated. “If you see this individual, do not approach him. Contact law enforcement immediately.”
The Reagan County Sheriff’s Department is urging anyone with information on Bingham’s whereabouts to contact them immediately at (325) 884-2424 or call 911.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
