Ignacio "Nacho" Salazar Martinez

Ignacio "Nacho" Salazar Martinez was called to be with the Lord on March 2, 2016.
 
Nacho was born on Oct. 30, 1926, to Carmen and Francisca (Salazar) Martinez in Mertzon, Texas.
 
He was very proud to have served during WWII in the Panama Canal. After his military service, he married his sweetheart, Trinidad Ochoa Martinez, in 1948. The two were married for 50 years and had 11 children.
 
Nacho worked for Union Pacific for 15 years before working for the City of Big Lake. He retired from the City in 1985, after 38 years.
 
He was a resident of Big Lake since 1957, and was an active member of St. Margaret's of Cortona Catholic Church. He was also very active in the Crusillo movement.
 
Nacho was preceded in death by his wife, Trine; son Ignacio Jr.; parents Carmen and Francisca Martinez; brother Samuel Martinez; sister Lydia Gonzales; and two grandsons, Mauro Jr. and Marc Anthony Martinez.
 
He is survived by his children, Herbert (Minga) Martinez, Sylvia Martinez, Mario (Diane) Martinez, Mauro (Sylvia) Martinez, Abel (Mary) Martinez, Sammy (Virginia) Martinez, Hector (Louisa) Martinez, Teresa (Jesse) De La Cruz, Martha (Helen) Martinez and Frankie (Bernice) Martinez.
 
Ignacio was a very loving grandpa to 29 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
 
A rosary was held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016, at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels/North in San Angelo. A second rosary was held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 4, at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Big Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, March 5, at the Catholic church in Big Lake, officiated by Rev. Prem Thumma.
 
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Richard Martinez, Joey Martinez, Sammy Martinez Jr., Andrew Salazar, Elijah Martinez, Esteban De La Cruz, Hector Jacob Martinez and Matthew Martinez. Honorary pallbearers are Samuel "Chame" Lara, Martin Ramirez, Gilbert Ramirez, J.R. Martinez, James Martinez and Xavier Vasquez.
 
Family and friends will miss this "Mighty Fine" man.
