Santa Rita FUNtier Days Set for Saturday
This year’s Santa Rita Days, presented by the Big Lake Chamber of Commerce, is taking on a western flare.
The event, now named Santa Rita Funtier Days, this Saturday, September 19, and celebrates Big Lake’s western past with trick ropers, a shootout, mechanical bull and indian dancers.
Funtier Days, following on the heels of the successful Star Spangled Celebration, will be capped off with a three band concert/dance.
Headlining the night is Texas Country legend Cory Morrow.
“We had such a great response from the Fourth of July event,” Chamber Director Loretta Epperson said. “We wanted to bring the same level of excitement to Santa Rita Days. I think people are going to be really excited for the entertainment, shopping and food this year.”
Santa Rita Funtier Days will include a longhorn for children and parents to take pictures with, two Concho Cowboy Shootouts, Texas Cloggers, Promenade Square Dancers, Chicksaw Indian Dancers, a mechanical bull, inflate able slides and obstacle course, a stick horse rodeo and Vicki’s Train from Odessa.
Morrow will be joined by opening act Dolly Shine, and Audio-M, a Tejano group out of Abilene.
There is no admission charge for the event, but don’t forget your cash! There will be plenty of art, craft and clothing vendors on site all day.
Vendors will be able to compete for prizes in the FUNtier Vendor Booth Contest. Vendors are encouraged to decorate and dress in the FUNtier Days’ western theme.
The event starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 19 with a opening ceremony by Cub Scout Pack 155 at 8:45 a.m.
Live music will kick off at the North Park Stage at 6:30 p.m. with Dolly Shine. Audio-M will follow, and Cory Morrow will cap off the night starting at 10:30 p.m.
The day will also include a stickhorse rodeo, rope the steer and cowboy boot hoops in the Kiddie Korral Station.
The 4th Grade Elementary Choir will perform starting at 5:30 p.m.
The dance, which ends at midnight, is BYOB (no glass containers PLEASE).
