Elizabeth Shane O’Bryan
January 28, 1919 - July 13, 2015
Elizabeth Shane O’Bryan, 96, died July 13, 2015 at Reagan Co. Care Center. She was born January 28, 1919 at Sabinal, Texas to I.A. Shane & Ruth Nash Shane. She is survived by daughter Suzanne O’Bryan of Alpine, son Jim O’Bryan of Big Lake, Granddaugher Katy Moore and husband Tim of Sweetwater, grand-daughters-in law De Anna O’Bryan and great-grand daughter Brynlee O’Byran of Big Lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters, husband Ralph OBryan, two daughters, Shane O’Bryan and Sally Elliott, and grandson Ralph O’Bryan.
During the Depression she moved her family to Austin where she attended public schools and on the graduate from University of Texas. She began her teaching career in Kyle, Texas, where she taught English and home economics. In 1941 she moved to Big Lake to teach and live at Florris Coates rooming house. Her family thought she had lost her mind and moved to the end of the world. She was very independent. She was Senior Class Sponsor and gained many lifelong friendships. She met Ralph O’Bryan and were married May 8, 1942. After her husbands death in 1954 she moved her four children to San Angelo where she was a dietician at Shannon Hospital. In 1956 they moved to Austin where she worked for Austin I.S.D. and attended University of Texas to gain her masters in Nutrition.
She was very active in the Presbyterian Church. She was the first female elder at University Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday School, assisted with the Food Basket, implement the child day care program and served on many committees.
There will be no formal services at this time. The family wishes to thank all of the friends and families who have been supportive at this time and all through her life. Special thanks to all the staff and caregivers at Reagan County Care Center.
