Santa Rita Star Spangled Celebration
Josh Abbott Band, Michael Salgado headline Big Lake’s 2nd Annual Star Spangled Event
Big Lake will be rocking Saturday, July 2nd with the 2nd Annual Santa Rita Star Spangled Celebration.
The event, presented by the Big Lake Chamber of Commerce, will be headlined by Texas Country superstar The Josh Abbott Band.
“We decided this year to combine the Star Spangled Celebration with our Santa Rita Days event," Chamber Director Loretta Epperson said. "We have a total of five bands lined up to provide live music all day long. We will also have arts and craft vendors from across the country here. It is a live event, and I hope everyone comes out to enjoy the great lineup of music we will have."
Vendors have until Friday, June 24th to sign up for their FREE spot by contacting the Big Lake Chamber of Commerce.
The event is being held at Reagan County's North Park with the gates opening at Noon and live music kicking off at 2 p.m. with Big Lake native Zach Edwards Band.
"I'm honored to be a part of a great celebration in a place where my roots were planted many years ago," Edwards said. "Still to this day, I feel blessed to have grown up in Big Lake and wouldn't trade that for anything. The people are some of the best folks I'll ever meet!"
Zach Edwards was originally going to be followed by Jemencio at 4 p.m.
Jemencio backed out of the event a week ago leaving a spot open in the event's lineup.
Local band Abundant Life with singer Trent Davidson stepped up to the plate to fill the spot.
Abundant Life will perform country covers along with some gospel music.
Davidson's group will be followed by Dolly Shine at 5:30 p.m.
Dolly Shine rocked last year's Santa Rita FUNtier Days and was able to come back as one of the favorites from that event.
At 8 p.m. the North Park will fill with the sound of Norteño music with legendary performer Michael Salgado taking the stage.
Everyone’s eyes will turn to the sky at 10:10 p.m. as Badboyz Fireworks puts on an impressive fireworks display.
“They have invested a lot into the show this year," Epperson said. "They will no longer be lighting the fireworks by hand, but will use an electronic system to set the fireworks off with precision. It will be a beautiful show."
Ground zero for the display will be the little league parking lot just behind the visitor stands at the football field.
The event will be closed out by headliner Josh Abbott Band.
The Josh Abbott Band, who came together in Lubbock, Texas in 2006, are the leading act in Texas Country, and carry with them national clout with several singles landing on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.
The band's current album, Front Row Seat, has received a lot of play for songs like "Amnesia" and "Wasn't That Drunk" featuring Carly Pearce.
There will be plenty to do for everyone in attendance with a 5K Color Run beginning at 9 a.m. The Color Run is FREE to participate in, and is fun for the whole family.
The Color Run will be held at the Reagan County's North Park with participants meeting at the North Park's Walking Track bridge at 8:45 p.m.
The event is open to all ages and people can register the morning of the event.
