Piece of Big Lake History Coming Home

Police Badge Located During Wise County Drug Arrest

A piece of Big Lake history is headed home.

Wise County Sheriff's deputies made a strange discovery yesterday during a drug arrest.

The suspect, Dusty Wayne Graham of Springtown, had a Big Lake Police Department badge pinned to his wallet.

Graham was arrested on five charges including False ID as a Police Officer, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Unauthorized use of a Vehicle, Possession of Marijuana less than 2 ounces and Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Grade 1 between one to four grams.

Reagan County Chief Deputy Destin Wilha said there is no telling what Graham was using the badge for, and that Wise County informed him that Graham allegedly purchased the badge at an antique store.

"They are sending the badge home to Big Lake," Wilha said. "When it gets in we plan on cleaning it up and pairing it with a City of Big Lake Police Department patch. It will be presented to the City of Big Lake for permanent display at City Hall."

Wilha said he has no idea how old the badge is, but said it has to be from before 1984.
