City OKs $325K Estimate to Repair Railroad Crossings
The City Council of Big Lake gave Reece Albert Inc. approval to pursue a change order to the city’s current paving project that will add cement railroad crossings at Main Street and Plaza Avenue.
The new rail crossings, when complete, promise to give Big Lake residents a smooth ride between the north and south side of the railroad tracks.
“After a lot of back and forth with TxDOT’s rail division we were given two options as a city,” Mayor Kyle Rockwell said. “They would let us pay them $466,000.00 to move the project up on their time line with no guarantee of the work being done, or we as a city could do the work ourselves. Once we had the approval from them to do the repairs ourselves we started moving the ball forward.”
