City Fined $32K for Landfill Violations
The City of Big Lake was handed a $32,550 from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for violations stemming from a June 2015 investigation at the city’s landfill.
City Secretary Stacey Stroud said the 12 violations ranged from windblown trash to improper amount of daily cover on the pits.
“We are actively working to correct those issues,” Stroud said. “One employee was terminated as a result of TCEQ’s investigation, and we have all hands on deck trying to get the issues, especially the windblown trash, under control.”
