Big Lake Wildcat Named Texas’ “Top Small Weekly”
The Big Lake Wildcat, for the second time in three years, was named the best small weekly newspaper in Texas at the Texas Press Association’s annual leadership retreat at the Westin hotel in north Austin Saturday.
J.L. Mankin, editor of the Big Lake Wildcat, and his father Randy Mankin, publisher of the Wildcat and Eldorado Success, were on hand to receive the honor.
The Wildcat was the clear winner in the Sweepstakes contest with the Bullard Banner News, Murphy Monitor and Clarendon Enterprise rounding out the top four.
The Sweepstakes Award is a culmination of the entire Better Newspaper Contest where points are given for first through fourth place finishes.
The Wildcat, totaling 550 points to clench the Sweepstakes, placed first in News Photography and Feature Photography.
