Ruby Jane Childress, 98, of Big Lake, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018. There will be no services. Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way.
Ruby was born on October 20, 1919 to Grover Cleveland and Lola Martha Ward in Fort Worth, Texas. She was a hard worker all of her life and very self-efficient. She did everything, including gardening, farming, canning, sewing her children’s clothes and cooking. She loved to cook for everyone.
Ruby was a cotton farmer for forty-five years and did it all herself, from start to finish. She absolutely loved Las Vegas. After her husband passed, she moved there for three years!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Childress and daughters, Martha May Morton and Johnnie Marie Murphy.
Ruby is survived by her son, Tommy Lee Childress and wife Marcella; ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
