Melvin Eugene Fowler, born October 30, 1948. Passed away at home surrounded by loved ones, on Thursday, March 7, 2019.
 
Mel grew up in Barnhart, TX, attend high school at Barnhart and Balmorhea HS, and attended Sul Ross University.  He spent six years in the United States Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller. He then went to work for the US Dept. of Interior, National Park Service, retiring in 2004. Mel traveled and worked throughout the United States. He managed to make it to all states except Maine. Mel was active on the NPS Search & Rescue team, did lots of snow skiing and scuba diving.
 
He was preceded in death by his father, Hershel Fowler. He is survived by his mother, Donna Marie (Turner) Fowler, 3 sisters Donna (Johnny) Moore, Debbie (Terry) Kneupper, Denise (Ruben) Cuellar, and a brother Milton (Mary) Fowler, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
 
The viewing will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 12, at the Barnhart, TX cemetery, with a graveside service following. A meal will be served at noon at the Barnhart Community Center before the service. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
